Court Support Dogs

If you or your children find yourselves in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, you may get to meet one of the Court dogs. The Court realises that being in the courtroom can be distressing. To alleviate some of this emotional load, the Court has now sworn in 8 Facility Dogs:

·       Molly (sworn in at Paramatta Registry);

·       Lani (sworn in at Sydney Registry);

·       Sunny (sworn in at Newcastle Registry);

·       Poppy (sworn in at Melbourne Registry);

·       Tilly (sworn in at Melbourne Registry);

·       Leo (sworn in at Brisbane Registry);

·       Bonnie (sworn in at Adelaide Registry); and

·       Zoey (sworn in at Hobart Registry).

The objective of the Court Dog Program is to assist parties and children express their views and stories and to lessen the trauma associated with attending and participating in Court.

These specially trained Court Dogs can provide support both inside and outside the Courtroom. In the Courtroom, the Court Dogs can sit next to you or by your feet in the witness box or sit next to you in the gallery.

Many people who have met the Court Dogs have found that they can think more clearly and express themselves better.
